CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - William Oliver "Bill" Culler, 2 Nov 2003 ----¤¤¤---- William Culler William Oliver "Bill" Culler, 82, Hampton, died Sunday, November 2, 2003 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Born on December 8, 1920 to the late Floyd and Pearl Usary Culler in the Sinking Creek Community of Johnson City, he worked at Bemberg and North American Rayon Corporation for many years. He retired from ITT in 1982 where he worked as a millwright. He was also a mechanic working out of a garage at his home during most of his adult life. Mr. Culler was a veteran, serving with the 3rd U.S. Marine Division of the South Pacific in the Bougainville Campaign and on Guam during World War II. He married Georgia Taylor Lacy in 1945, and they have continued to live in the Hampton area since 1949. He was a member of Rittertown Baptist Church. He was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #566. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Georgia Culler; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Geri Lacy, of Roan Mountain, and Chuck and Sharon Culler, Elizabethton; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Jerry Mashburn, of Southern Pines, North Carolina; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Estelle Culler, Elizabethton; two sisters, Ruth Morton and Annalee White, both of Elizabethton; seven grandchildren, Kelly Lacy Bresnahan, Richard Lacy, Jr., Nicholas Culler, Kala Culler, Kelli Culler, Mark Mashburn and Marianne Mashburn. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2003 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Haynes and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2003 in the Rittertown Baptist Church Cemetery. Ben Johnson and Pat Ray will provide the music. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday will be Larry Emmert, Gordan Emmert, Frank Culler, Joel Deloach, Joe Hensley and Elden White. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Ward, Bobby Frasier, Jack Smith, Tip Smith, Wayne Smith, Byrd Deadrick, Bill Davis, Buddy Wiseman, Michael Ingram, Ken Carnett, Gene Smith, Buddy Wiseman, Avon friends, his church family, doctors and staff of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Johnson City. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. VFW Post #2166 will conduct military graveside honors. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Culler to the Rittertown Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
