Davis Mrs. Martha Stevens Davis, of Elizabethton, 79, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Frank Ward and Edith Hayes Ward Townsend. Mrs. Davis attended the Hampton Church of God. She was a retired employee of Mor-Flo Industries. She was avid quilter. Survivors include a son, Dean Stevens, Roan Mountain; five daughters, Willie Mae Goodwin, Lenoir, N.C., Ethel Birchfield, Kathy Grant and Theresa Stevens, all of Elizabethton, and Virginia "Peanut" Alvarado, Missionary to Bulgaria; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Townsend and Don Townsend; five sisters, Juanita Neeley, Mildred Winters, Louise Potter, Martha "Teen" Walsh and Helen Huffman; one very special aunt, Willie Trivette; and someone special to her heart, Hurley Davis, Roan Mountain. Funeral services for Mrs. Davis will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Joseph Alvarado and the Rev. Margin Slagle officiating. Music will be provided by her grandchildren and family. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Hampton. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, will be Chad Tipton, Marty Hill, Steve Grant, Jerry Goodwin Jr., Raymond Phillips and Charles Stout. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter, Kathy Grant, 1135 Berry Road, Elizabethton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Condolences to the Davis family may be e- mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
