Davis Bernice L. Davis, 96, formerly of Rt. 5, Elizabethton, died Monday, February 11, 2002, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Davis was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late S.M. and Hannah Grindstaff Taylor. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sanford C. "Jack" Davis, December 6, 1974, a son, Edward H. Davis, a brother, Crawford Taylor, and two sisters, Hilan Street and Alice Taylor. Mrs. Davis was a member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church and was a retired schoolteacher having taught at Unaka High School, Unaka Elementary and Buladean Elementary School. She was also former owner and operator of Davis Store. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Sycamore Chapter No. 163. Survivors include a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Teresa and Tim McHale, Williamsburg, Va., and a special nephew, Edwin Taylor, Elizabethton, Several other nieces and nephews also survive. Davis, 96, formerly of Rt. 5, Elizabethton, who died Monday, February 11, 2002, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 14, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. Music will be under the direction of Edwin Taylor. The Order of Eastern Star Sycamore Chapter No. 163 will conduct a memorial service following the funeral service. Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from friends attending the service. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors of Stoney Creek and the men of Stoney Creek Baptist Church. Friends may call prior to the service on Thursday morning. Those who prefer in lieu of flowers may make donations in memory of Mrs. Davis to the Carter County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 682, Elizabethton, Tenn. 37644.
