Deal Herman L. Deal, 84, 2213 Highway 91, Elizabethton, died Saturday, January 19, 2002, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Deal was a native of Carter County and the son of the late James B. and Elizabeth Smith Deal. He was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby Lee Deal, three brothers, Hal Deal, Jimmy Deal and Herfel Deal, and a sister, Nora Deal Grindstaff. Mr. Deal was a member of Moore's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and was former Tax Assessor for Carter County. He was also a member of the DAV and the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart. Survivors include his wife, Myrtie Moreland Deal, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sonny and Kathy Deal, Hampton, and Roger and Diane Deal, Elizabethton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carol and David Beeler, Jacksonville, Fla., and Betty Deal Bradley, Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Julie Bradley, Carrie Deal, Michelle Stevens and Danny Deal, all of Elizabethton; five great-grandchildren, Kayla Buchanan, Richard Buchanan, Brandon Buchanan, Jacob Deal and Emily Deal, all of Elizabethton; a sister, Delores Steed, Seattle, Wash.; a special nephew, Charles Moreland, Elizabethton; and a special niece, Lois Suit, Johnson City. Deal, 84, 2213 Highway 91, Elizabethton, who died Saturday, January 19, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, January 21, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Clarence Phillips and the Rev. Keith Stockton officiating. Music will be under the direction of Linda Bowers, soloist. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 22, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be John Rednour, Mark Deal, Larry Lynn Moreland, Lance Suit, Greg Moreland and Gene Moreland. Honorary pallbearers will be David Deal, Doug Deal, Mike Deal, Bruce Deal, Charlie Brown, Charles "Chucky" Suit, Tom McCloud, Doug Fair, Danny Suit, Mickey Taylor, Freeman Taylor, the Rev. Earnest Garland and Darrell Stout. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home. Friends may also call at the residence, 2213 Highway 91, Elizabethton, at any time.
