CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Ralph C. DeVault, 10 Dec 2002 ----¤¤¤---- Ralph C. DeVault Ralph C. DeVault, 78, 2116 Old Lewis Road, Johnson City, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. DeVault was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Troy Eugene and Molly Gouge DeVault. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jody DeVault, January 28, 2001; three brothers, John DeVault, Sam DeVault and Rex DeVault; and five sisters, Annie DeVault, Loy Bennett, Ella Lewis, Sally Sims and Ruth Cole. Mr. DeVault was retired from the Budd Corporation as a Tool and Dye Maker. He was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton and was a Mason. Mr. DeVault was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. He was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge in Germany on December 19, 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Carolyn DeVault, Elizabethton, and Sam and Susan DeVault, Jonesborough, and three grandchildren, Kimberly DeVault, Jonesborough, Christopher DeVault, Elizabethton, and Ben DeVault, Jonesborough. DeVault, 78, 2116 Old Lewis Road, Johnson City, who died Tuesday, December 10, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 12, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Mr. Don Marshall and Mr. Eddy Craft, ministers, officiating. Music will be by Jerry Barnett, soloist, and Gene Estep, organist. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, December 13, at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Kenneth Calloway, James Montgomery, Gary White, Bill Gentry, Jim Kent, Monte Walker, Delbert Loudermilk and Sonny Fletcher. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class of First Christian Church of Elizabethton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Friends may also call at the residence, 2116 Old Lewis Road, Johnson City, at any time. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make memorials to the Building Fund of First Christian Church, 513 Hattie Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643 or the Elizabethton Church of Christ, 137 East C Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
