CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Earl L. "Butch" Dykes, 1 Apr 2005 ----¤¤¤---- Earl L. "Butch" Dykes, 80, West G Street, Elizabethton, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at Pine Ridge Health Care following a lengthy illness. Mr. Dykes was a native of Sullivan County and a son of the late Fuller and Mary Dykes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Glover Dykes, in 1991, and by five brothers and two sisters. Mr. Dykes was a retired electrician from North American Rayon Corporation. He was of the Free Will Baptist faith. Survivors include a daughter and son-in- law, Patsy and Wayne Shaffer, Elizabethton; a grandson, Ashley McKinney, Knoxville; a granddaughter, Vanessa Martin, and a great-granddaughter, Lauren Martin, both of Nashville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Dykes will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, April 3, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Ashley McKinney. Graveside services and interment will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 4, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Kyte, Ben Johnson, Carl Robertson and Rick Johnson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service.
