Ellis ABINGDON, Va. -- Harold Ross Ellis, 79, passed away at his residence on Saturday, September 24, 2005, after a long Illness. Mr. Ellis was born in Carter County, Tenn., and made his home in Elizabethton, Tenn., before moving to Abingdon in 1951. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee School of Pharmacy in Memphis, Tenn., and was the owner and pharmacist of Ellis Pharmacy and Home Health, where he served the community for over 50 years. He had a strong love for his family and this was his priority in life. He loved the great outdoors, both hunting and fishing or working on the farm and riding his horse on the Virginia Creeper Trail. He had a lifelong love for the University of Tennessee football and will always be remembered as a Big Orange Fan. Mr. Ellis was a former member of the Abingdon Rotary Club, where he received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, and was active in various civic organizations in Abingdon. He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps where he served in Guam and Iwo Jima in the Pacific during WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Katherine Ellis; two sons, David Scott Ellis and Robert Lynn Ellis; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Lewey. Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Lowrie Ellis, Abingdon; a daughter, Elaine Ellis Cook, Abingdon; a son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Lorie Ellis, Abingdon; a sister, Virginia Ellis, Elizabethton, Tenn.; a brother, Phil Ellis, Elizabethton, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren, Joshua Ellis, Christopher Ellis, Susannah Ellis, Ann Cook, Kathy Cook, Michael Cook, Sarah Ellis and Ross Ellis. Funeral services for Mr. Ellis were conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, September 26, in the Campbell & Frost Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. Robert N. Lominack Jr. officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, in the Knollkreg Memorial Park Cemetery in Abingdon with Full Military Honors. Active pallbearers will be Matt Odum, Ben Colbaugh, A.D. Witt, Mike Clark, Willard Looney, Jim Hutton, Mack Johnson and Glen Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Scott Shaffer, Dr. Herman Pinkerton, Dr. David Brillhart, Dr. Jim Gardner, Ken Mathews and Dr. Jim Denton. The family received friends at Campbell & Frost Funeral Home on Monday from 6 p.m. until the time of the service at 8 p.m. The family would like to thank his caregivers, Linda and Ernie Richardson, Jessica Ward and Lala Stevens for all of the kindness shown to Mr. Ellis.
