A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Frank C. and Juanita Mottern Emmert. Mr. Emmert was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton and a retired employee of the City of Elizabethton Fire Department after 30 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. In addition to his parents, Mr. Emmert was preceded in death by a brother, James Emmert, two sisters, Florence Woods and Louise Collins, and a nephew, Jimmy Emmert. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Carriger Emmert, of the home; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph "Doc" and Frances Emmert of Elizabethton; a sister-in- law, Minnie Emmert of Elizabethton; four nieces, Greer and her husband Bob Murphy of Johnson City, Tammy and her husband Mike Miller of Georgia, Marcheta and her husband Liston Laine of Colonial Heights, Va., and Audra Laine of Colonial Heights, Va.; and nephews, Terry Emmert and Denny Wayne "Gov" Emmert, both of Elizabethton, Benny Frank Emmert of Johnson City, Richard "Dickey" Emmert, Mike Emmert and Steve Woods, all of Elizabethton, and Donnie Woods of North Carolina. The funeral service for Mr. Emmert will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Don Marshall and Mr. H. Clay Bailey, ministers, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Gene Estep. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Brent Nidiffer officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class of First Christian Church of Elizabethton, Ken Calloway, Jeff Williams, Brent Dugger, L.D. Fair and friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the funeral service. Friends may call at the residence at anytime. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Youth Department of First Christian Church of Elizabethton, 513 Hattie Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
