Ensor Stanley F. Ensor, 74, 170 Rex Harrell Road, Elizabethton, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at his residence after a lengthy illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Cecil and Cora Ellen Gentry Ensor. Mr. Ensor was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was retired from the U.S. Forest Service. He helped organize the Stoney Creek Volunteer Fire Department and served as its first assistant fire chief. He was also a Boy Scout Master and a coach for the Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was a lifetime member of the American Rifle Association and an avid Civil War buff. Mr. Ensor was a member of Unaka Baptist Church where he served as trustee, Sunday school teacher, RA leader, choir member and deacon. He was an active worker in the church and involved in many building projects, having the church fellowship hall named in his honor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Ensor, and a special nephew, Randy Ensor. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Pierce Ensor, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Keith Gouge, Florence, S.C.; two grandsons, Timothy Tipton and wife Vicki, of the home, and Andrew Curtis IV, Florence, S.C.; a granddaughter, Cara Gouge, Elizabethton; two great-grandchildren, Aaron Tipton, of the home, and Kyra Gouge, Elizabethton; four brothers, Howard Ensor, Ernest Ensor, Robert Ensor and C. Lee Ensor, all of Elizabethton; and three sisters, Marie Oxendine, Ruby Corder and Linda Vaughn, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and special friends, Michael Elliott Sr., Mike Elliott Jr., Paul Bishop and Gary Bishop, also survive. A private disposition at the Civil War Cemetery in Charleston, S.C., will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Caris Hospice for all of their help and support.
