Estep Hunter F. "Hunt" Estep, 82, 111 Cecil VanHuss Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, January 5, 2008, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Joe and Mattie Crowe Estep. He was the grandson of Samuel Mitchell Estep, who served with the Tennessee Cavalry during the Civil War. Prior to his retirement "Hunt" was a heavy equipment operator, working with various construction companies in the East Tennessee area. He was a member of Siam Baptist Church. Mr. Estep was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 101st Airborne where he saw combat in Germany and his unit was instrumental in liberating a number of concentration camps. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Elsie Carden, Grace Treadway and Pauline Puckett, and four brothers, Bill Crowe, Claude, Click and Joe Estep Jr. Survivors include his wife, Glenda VanHuss Estep; a son, Tom Glenn Grindstaff, Elizabethton; and a grandson, Hunter Gene Grindstaff. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service for Mr. Estep will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jack Roddy officiating. Inurnment will be at 12 noon Wednesday, January 9, in the Nave Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tom Glenn Grindstaff, Albert Woodard, Bart Woodard and Charles "Blue" Treadway. Military Honors will be provided by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post No. 2166 and the Tennessee National Guard. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Estep to the Siam Baptist Church, 2414 Siam Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643 or the Building Fund of the Old Horseshoe Free Will Baptist Church, c/o David Wilson, 295 Bishop Hollow Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The family wishes to thank the staff at Ivy Hall Nursing Home for their love, care and concern during his illness. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery.
