Mr. Edney was a lifelong resident of Roan Mountain and a son of the late John and Bertie Johnson Edney. He was also preceded in death by three children, Maynard, Billy Glen and Evelyn Edney, a brother and six sisters. Mr. Edney was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 37 years of service, and was also the founder of Shell Creek Fabric and Shell Creek Carpet. He was a member of Upper Shell Creek Christian Church and the Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge #566. He was also a magistrate of Carter County. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Shell Edney, of the home; a daughter, Pat Edney Miller, Roan Mountain; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Eugene Edney, Elizabethton, C.J. and Robin Edney, Spartanburg, S.C., and John and Audrey Edney, Elizabethton; and two sisters, Juanita Julian, Elizabethton, and Iva Lee McKinney, Hampton. Seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Judy Presnell, also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, is in charge of arrangements. EDNEY -- Funeral services for Clyde Edney, 85, 8491 Highway 19-E, Roan Mountain, who died Monday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Jim Storie officiating. Music will be under the direction of Gail Miller and Terry Dugger. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Richardson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Chris Miller, Chad Miller, Robin Honeycutt, Bob Shields, Todd Campbell and Jim Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be William Murrell Grindstaff, Walter Church, Warren Ledford, Richard Winters, Wayne Holtsclaw, Dan Winters, John Tom Williams, R.L. Miller, Roy Roberts, Herb Buck, Lawrence Roberts and Clifton Shell. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence any time. Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, is in charge of arrangements.
