CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Luther James Ellis, 8 Oct 2002 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Luther J. Ellis Luther James Ellis, 88, Peters Hollow Road, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, October 8, 2002 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Wiley and Betty Heatherly Ellis. Mr. Ellis was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member of the New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. He was a charter member of the Appalachian Sportsman Club and a charter member of the Stoney Creek Coon Club. Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Elliott Ellis; a brother, Paul Ellis; a sister, Florence Shankle, and a step-son, Wayne Webb. Survivors include his wife, George Webb Ellis; two sons and one daughter- in-law, Rondal Ellis, Bill and Hazel Ellis, all of Elizabethton; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Jerry Lane, of Troutville, Va.; a step-daughter and her husband, Juanita and Leonard Lewis, Elizabethton; two grandsons; one granddaughter, and one great granddaughter. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. ELLIS -- Funeral services for Luther James Ellis, 88, 121 Peters Hollow Road, Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, October 8, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ray Colbaugh, and Rev. Bill Greer officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Estep officiating. Music will be provided by the New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church Choir. Active pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2002, will be Jimmy Eggers, Kenneth Shankle, Tim Hardin, Gene Carrier, Jim May, Kenneth Colbaugh, Jimmy Buckles, and Clifford Peters. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. William P. Bailey; his church family; members of the Stoney Creek Coon Club; friends of Stoney Creek Grill, and other friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2002 in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence.
