CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Betty Lou Thomason Ellis, 11 Sep 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Betty Lou Thomason Ellis, 75, Gap Creek Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Washington County, she was a daughter of the late Frank L. and Bertha Alice Smith Thomason. She had lived on Gap Creek since 1956. Mrs. Ellis was a homemaker. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church and was an active member of the church choir. Mrs. Ellis was actively involved in the sick and shut-in ministry and the nursing home ministry of the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce A. Ellis, in 1985; by a son, Billy Joe Ellis, who was missing in action in 1968 and was declared dead in 1975; one brother, Lewis Thomason; and one sister, Ruth Gray. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Edith Ellis and Frank and Linnie Ellis, all of Elizabethton; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Lee Long, Elizabethton; four brothers, Dayton Thomason, Elizabethton, Ed Thomason, Virginia Beach, Va., Troy Thomason, Elizabethton, and David Thomason, Columbia, S.C.; two sisters, Alma South and Nell Harris, both of Johnson City; seven grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted a 8 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel, with the C.W. Snodgrass and Dr. William Duncan officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by the Zion Baptist Church Choir. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Monday, will be Billy Ellis, Phillip Ellis, Tracy Harvey, Adam Taylor, Bob Carr and Andy Wilson. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. For those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Ellis to the POW's-Missing in Action, C/O PNC John Edwards, 889 Randall Road, Niskayuna, NY 12309-4815.
