Emmert, 87, 222 Big Springs Road, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Emmert was a native of Carter County and a son of the late William J. and Martha Dugger Emmert. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy "Dimple" Hopkins Emmert, who died May 5, 2001, and by four brothers and two sisters. Mr. Emmert was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation with 50 years of service. He was a member and long-time deacon of Big Springs Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bobby and Elaine Emmert, Elizabethton, Kenneth and Peggy Emmert and Ronnie Emmert, all of Johnson City; a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Ed Marley, Elizabethton; and six grandchildren, Lori Haines, Lisa White, Kristie Churchill, Jody Lewis, Rodney Emmert and Kevin Burchfield. Eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. EMMERT -- Funeral services for Joe W. Emmert, 87, 222 Big Springs Road, Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, July 24, 2001, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Big Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Kyker officiating. Music will be provided by Dee Hutchins, pianist. Interment will be at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 1:50 p.m. Friday, will be Eddie Haines, David White, Jody Lewis, Danny Churchill, Rodney Emmert and Kevin Burchfield. Honorary pallbearers will be his Church Family, friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at his residence. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Emmert to the Building Fund of Big Springs Baptist Church, c/o Elaine Emmert, 198 Big Springs Road, Elizabethton, Tenn. 37643. Mr. Emmert will be moved to the church one hour before the services. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
