CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - John E. English, 14 Aug 2003 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- John E. English John E. English, Laurel Street, Roan Mountain, died Thursday, August 14, 2003, at Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. English was a native of Avery County, N.C., and a son of the late James and Dula Hughes English. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Herman English. Mr. English had lived in Carter County for the past 57 years. He was a retired employee of the J.E. Green Company, having worked there for 25 years, and was an employee of Roan Mountain State Park, having worked there for 20 years. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sally Simerly English; a daughter and son-in-law, Madge and L.D. Jones, Roan Mountain; two sisters, Verna Hughes, Spruce Pine, N.C., and Ruby Burleson, Bakersville, N.C.; a grandson, John Milton Jones; a granddaughter, Carrie Mathes; a great-great-granddaughter, Glenda Nicole Bennett; twin great-grandsons, Warren and Jessie Mathes; and three special nephews, Charles English, Troy English Jr. and Kenneth "Buckeye" Sluder. Funeral services for Mr. English will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, August 15, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jerry Honeycutt officiating. Music will be provided by the Victory Singers. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 16, in the Johnson-Roan View Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, will be L.D. Jones, Johnny Mathes, Robert Bailey, Charles Bailey, Kenneth Sluder, Ronnie Whitehead, Rex Whitehead and Jeff Whitehead. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of his granddaughter, Carrie Mathes, 350 Bluegrass Road, Roan Mountain. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Saturday.
