Mary H. Flaherty 





     Mrs. Mary Vivian Jarrett Holder Flaherty, 80, died on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 

2006, at Erwin Health Care Center. A native of Carter County, she was the 

daughter of the late Frankie Jarrett. 





    Mrs. Flaherty retired from Leon-Ferenbach after more than 30 years of 

service. She was Baptist and enjoyed playing bingo, going to garage sales and 

flea markets, and talking with family and friends. Mrs. Flaherty was a past 

president of the ladies auxiliary, VFW Post #2108, Johnson City, and had served 

as a state president, district president, and local president of MOCA. She 

enjoyed doing volunteer work at the VA Medical Center. 





    She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" 

and Allan Dearstone, Johnson City, and Marie Radford and Bob Phillips, Hampton; 

a step-daughter, Elizabeth Franklin, Strawberry Plains; two sons and daughters-

in-law, Harry "Jimmy" and Susie Holder, Johnson City, and George Robert and 

JoAnn Jarrett, Elizabethton; two step-sons, Larry Flaherty and Gary Flaherty, 

both of Gray; five grandchildren, Amy Livermore, Wilmington, N.C., Stacy 

Jewell, Peterstown, W.V., Pamela Holt, Johnson City, Heather Holder, 

Greeneville, and Chuckie Jarrett and Jackie Jarrett, both of Elizabethton; and 

nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her mother, Mrs. Flaherty was preceded 

in death by her first husband, Harry Holder in 1984, her second husband, 

Charles Flaherty in 2004, and a granddaughter, Crystal Dearstone in 2000. 





     A committal service for Mary Holder Flaherty will be held at 11 a.m., 

Thursday, March 2, in Mountain Home National Cemetery with Pastor Steve Pate 

officiating. Pallbearers will be Larry Flaherty, Gary Flaherty, Bobby H. 

Phillips, Allan Dearstone, Kelley Jewell, Ray Livermore, Chris Holt, and Danny 

Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Whittimore, Tyler Saylor, and the 

ladies auxiliary of VFW Post #2108. The family expresses a very special thank 

you to Erwin Health Care staff for the wonderful and loving care of their 

mother. Memorial contributions may be given to the Activities Program at Erwin 

Health Care Center, Wanda Etheridge, 100 Stalling Lane, Erwin, TN 37650 or the 

Alzheimer's Association, 207 N. Boone Street, Suite 1500, Johnson City, TN
