Fortney Bina Ruth Reece Fortney, 72, 562 Garrison Hollow Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, November 5, 2005, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Fortney was a native of Butler and the daughter of the late James B. and Elizabeth Reece. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister and an infant sister. Mrs. Fortney was a member of Harvest Baptist Church and a retired employee of Sears. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Richard Lee Fortney, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Angela Fortney and Robert and Teresa Fortney, all of Richmond, Va.; three grandchildren, Kimberly Morris, Jennifer Fortney and Chad Fortney, all of Richmond, Va.; and a great-granddaughter, Lilly Grace Morris, Richmond, Va. Several nieces and a nephew also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Fortney will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, November 7, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Greenwell officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mike Williams and Rev. Ronnie Campbell, soloists. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, in the Reece Cemetery, Butler. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday for the graveside service. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Eberly Matherly, Richard Moody, Grant Sharps and Carl Whaley. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, prior to the service in the chapel, or at the residence at anytime. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the American Cancer Society, 209 S. Riverside Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
