CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Thelma Elliott Fletcher, 9 Mar 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Thelma Elliott Fletcher, 91, Life Care Center of Elizabethton, formerly of Lynn Valley and Courtyard Apartments, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at the Center. Born July 17, 1912 in Carter County, she was the first child born to the late Jim and Mahalia Oliver Elliott. Mrs. Fletcher retired from J.C. Penney Company and had previously been employed by North American Rayon Corporation. She was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, taught Bible School and participated in all church activities. She was preceded in death by her husband, Matson Fletcher, a sister, Venita Morley, and two brothers, Clinton and Granville Elliott. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Mack and Florine Fletcher, Granite Falls, N.C.; four sisters, Maggie Williams, Charlotte Buckles, Wylmeta Buckles and Geraldine Brooks, all of Elizabethton; and a brother, Howard Elliott, Elizabethton. Four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 12, at Lynn Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Wilson officiating. Music will be provided by William J. Greene, soloist. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 13, in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.
