CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Florence A. Forbes, 1 Dec 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Florence A. Forbes, 93, formerly of Long Hollow Rd., Elizabethton, died Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at Life Care Center, Elizabethton, following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Bessie Hopson Oxendine. She was a member of Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She helped to organize the Long Hollow Community Center in 1950, which was one of the first community centers in Carter County. She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Forbes, March 28, 1993; three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Jo Ann Blankenship, Johnson City; Edith and Dr. Glen Ray Delp, of Selma, Ala.; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Billy Forbes, Jr., and Dorothy, Elizabethton; Duane and Loretta Forbes, Elizabethton; E. Wesley Forbes, Cookeville; Jack and Mary Forbes, Elizabethton; Roy Forbes, Elizabethton; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Minnie Belle Hughes, Elizabethton; three brothers, Ray "Doc" Oxendine, Roan Mountain; C.W. "Bud" Oxendine; Haskel Oxendine, both of Concord, N.C.; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Erma Stevens, also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2004 at Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel with Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Ben Johnson and Pat Ray. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday prior to the funeral service, or friends may call at the residence of a son, Roy Forbes, 420 Long Hollow Rd., Elizabethton, any time. The graveside service and burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2004 at Peters Cemetery on Ripshin, with Rev. Russell Potter officiating. Active pallbearers will be Mike Harris and the following grandsons, Teddy Forbes, Chad Delp, Eddie Forbes, John Forbes, George Blankenship, Bryan Forbes, Scott Forbes and Wesley Forbes. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Eugene Galloway and the men's Bible class at Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. on Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. A special thank you to the staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton; Mittie Belle Johnson and Cupe Vaughn for the love and support shown to the Forbes family.
