Fortner 02/15/99 Mrs. Velma A. Estep Fortner, 79, Hermitage Health Center, formerly of 202 West Riverside Drive, Elizabethton, died Sunday, February 14, 1999, at the Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Fortner was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Bruce and Eliza Carden Estep. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dan Fortner, March 6, 1987, two brothers and a sister. Mrs. Fortner was a member of the First Church of God. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Ken (Hazel) Rader, Mrs. Robert (Georgia) Moore and Mrs. Dennie (Ruby) Ensor, all of Elizabethton, and Mrs. Conrad (Charlotte) Ward, Morristown; a son and daughter-in-law, George and Lucy Fortner, Elizabethton; a sister and brother-in-law, Iva Lee and Vester Grindstaff, Elizabethton; a brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Patsy Estep, Elizabethton; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Conley (Hattie) Estep of Florida. Ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. FORTNER -- Funeral services for Mrs. Velma A. Estep Fortner, 79, Hermitage Health Center, Elizabethton, formerly of 202 West Riverside Drive, Elizabethton, who passed away Sunday, February 14, 1999, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Conrad Ward and Rev. Ron Owens officiating. Robert Moore Jr. will provide the music. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons: Donald Ensor, Johnny Ensor, Robert Moore Jr., Jonathan Fortner, Kelly Buckles, Danny Ward, Josh Arnold and Mike Rader. Honorary pallbearers will be sons-in-law: Dennie Ensor, the late Robert Moore Sr., Conrad Ward and Ken Rader, her very special daughter-in-law, Lucy Fortner, also Bill and Mae Honeycutt, her roommate Mamie Dugger Seaton, her extended family and caregivers and the staff of Hermitage Health Center. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter and son-in-law, Hazel and Ken Rader, 163 Green Valley Lane, Elizabethton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Mrs. Fortner was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
