Stella C. Freeman

Stella C. Freeman, age 85, Elm Hollow Road, Roan Mountain, 
died Friday, October 17, 2003, at her residence. A native of 
Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and 
Blanche McKinney Calhoun. She was a member of Gray's Chapel 
Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, 
Hershal Calhoun, and Carroll Calhoun. 
Survivors include her husband, Herman Freeman, of the home; two 
daughters and one son-in-law, Sharon and Bob Palmer, Roan 
Mountain and Gail Johnson, Roan Mountain; two sisters, Christine 
Martin, Johnson City and Betty Hughes, Johnson City; two brothers, 
Reynard Calhoun, Roan Mountain, and Horace Calhoun, Hampton; four 
grandchildren and spouses, Russell and Darlene Johnson, Johnson 
City, Neil and Kristie Johnson, Scotty and Tammy Johnson, Mitzi 
and Joey Whitehead, all of Roan Mountain; four great-grandchildren, 
Devin and Austin Whitehead and Brooke and Haley Johnson, all of 
Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 
The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, October 
19, 2003, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan 
Mountain, with the Rev. Thom Burleson officiating. The graveside 
service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, 
October 20, at Calhoun-McKinney Cemetery, Heaton Creek Road, Roan 
Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Russell Johnson, Neil Johnson, 
Scotty Johnson, Joey Whitehead, Bob Palmer and Jerry Calhoun. 
Honorary pallbearers will be Frankie Kelley, Zeke Little, Douglas 
Calhoun, Brian Burleson, Tony Martin, Terry Martin and Lynn Ellis. 
Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet 
at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. on Monday. The family will receive 
friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, October 19, at Tetrick Funeral Home, 
Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, or friends may call at the 
residence 109 Elm Hollow Road, Roan Mountain, any time. Online
