CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Rufus Fred Donnie Freeman Sr., 25 Dec 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- MOCKSVILLE, N.C. -- Rufus Fred Donnie Freeman Sr., 89, of Ruffin Street, Cooleemee, died early Saturday morning, December 25, 2004, at Autumn Care of Mocksville. Mr. Freeman was born January 5, 1915 in Roan Mountain, Tenn., to the late Fred and Delia Wood Freeman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Kate Roberts Freeman, in 2001, and by two grandchildren, four brothers and four sisters. Mr. Freeman was a retired machinist with the H.B. Owsley Company in Charlotte. He had also worked on the Oak Ridge Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, Tenn. He attended Cooleemee First Baptist Church but was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ in Charlotte. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Williams and Judy Phillips, both of Cooleemee; a son, Rufus Fred Donnie Freeman Jr., Williamsport, Md.; three granddaughters; four step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Letty Martin, Elizabethton, Tenn.; and a brother, Herman Freeman, Roan Mountain, Tenn. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, at First Baptist Church of Cooleemee with Rev. Tommy Register, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen City Cemetery in Charlotte at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Benny Cline assisting. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home from 7 until 9 p.m. Monday. The family requests memorials be considered for the Abundant Living Adult Day Care, P.O. Box 947, Salisbury, N.C. 28145, or to Cooleemee First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 518, Cooleemee, N.C. 27014 or to the Church of Jesus Christ, 600 E. 36th Street, Charlotte, N.C. 28205. Mr. Freeman will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
