Farthing 01/05/99 Homer H. Farthing, 87, 511 West "C" Street, Elizabethton, died Saturday, January 2, 1999, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton following a lengthy illness. Mr. Farthing was a native of Carter County. He resided in Boone, N.C., for 20 years, resided in Old Butler, and returned to Elizabethton in 1949 to make his home on West "C" Street. He was a son of the late T. Hill and Sadie Lineback Farthing. Mr. Farthing was a retired teacher in the Johnson and Carter County School Systems. He had taught in the Watauga Academy in Old Butler and retired from teaching at the Elizabethton High School in 1973. He was of the Presbyterian faith. Survivors include his wife, Deane Matherly Farthing, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Harrison and Sue Farthing, Elizabethton, and John and Betty Farthing, Mountain City; three grandsons, Harrison Lee Farthing, Elizabethton, Jordan Farthing and Caleb Farthing, both of Mountain City; a granddaughter, April Holsclaw, Charlotte, N.C.; and four great-granddaughters, Keely Hamm and Sydney Farthing, both of Elizabethton, Hannah Holsclaw and Holly Holsclaw, both of Charlotte, N.C. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. FARTHING -- Funeral services for Homer H. Farthing, 87, 511 West "C" Street, Elizabethton, who died Saturday, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, with Dr. John Martin and Father Steve Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Christus Garden of Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Harrison Lee Farthing, Don Holsclaw, Glen Gouge, Wayne Williams, Paul Williams Jr., John Fine, Leslie Pearson and Noah Gouge. Honorary pallbearers will be friends, neighbors, former students and fellow teachers of Mr. Farthing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence, 511 West "C" Street, Elizabethton, any time. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
