Gentry Mr. Ernest I. "Bud" Gentry, 86, 431 East "H" Street, Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital, following a brief illness. Mr. Gentry was the son of the late Noah and Farrie Hicks Gentry and was a native of Carter County. He was retired from the Elizabethton Electric System and was a charter member of the Carter County Rescue Squad where he served as captain seven times since it's inception in 1951, and he was also a first aid and safety instructor for the American Red Cross. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War Two. Mr. Gentry was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elizabethton and was Honorary Head Elder for Life. He was an avid fisherman in his spare time. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gentry was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Gentry, on Dec. 20, 1986, and three sisters, Bessie Baird, Lucille Taylor, and Cora Ensor. Mr. Gentry is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Suzie H. and John Stacks of Woodstock, Ga., and Kathy Gentry and her fiancé, Martin Ayala, of Marietta, Ga.; one grandson, Chris Hanson, Memphis; and one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Evelyn Gentry of Elizabethon. Several nieces and nephews and many special friends also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Gentry will be conducted on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at 7 p.m. in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Pastor Erwin Lueker and Pastor Jack McWhirter officiating. Music will be under the direction of No Name But His. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5- 7 p.m. prior to the service in the chapel. The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. in the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Dwayne Blevins, Johnny Mills, Richard Tetrick, Pete Ensor, Jeremy Simerly and Don McKeehan. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. David Mills, Johnny Holder, employees of the Elizabethton Electric System and employees of Hook's Restaurant. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery.
