Edith Gibbs 





    Mrs. Edith Gibbs, 91, Roan Highlands Nursing Center, Roan Mountain, died 

Tuesday, June 19, 2007, following an extended illness. 





    A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late James and 

Molly Barnett Roberts. 





    Mrs. Gibbs was a homemaker and a member of Gray's Chapel Presbyterian 

Church. 





    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, 

Thomas Avery Gibbs, an infant son, James Eugene Gibbs, and four brothers, 

Auther, Mack, George and Jay Roberts. 





    Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wayne Gibbs and Ray and 

Mary Gibbs, all of Roan Mountain; four grandsons, Roderick Gibbs, Jeffrey 

Gibbs, Jake Gibbs and Jesse Gibbs, all of Roan Mountain; two granddaughters, 

Julia Gibbs and Jennifer Gibbs, both of Roan Mountain; two great-

grandchildren, Olivia Gibbs and Samuel Gibbs, both of Roan Mountain; two 

sisters, Pearl Birchfield of Elizabethton and Lucy Hughes of Roan Mountain; 

and a brother, Howard Roberts of Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also 

survive. 





    Funeral services for Mrs. Gibbs will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 

22, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, 

with Thom Burleson officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service in 

the Gibbs Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Wayne Gibbs, Ray Gibbs, Rod 

Gibbs, Jeffrey Gibbs, Jake Gibbs, Jesse Gibbs and Andy Thomas. The family will 

receive friends at the Rhododendron Chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday, prior 

to the funeral service. Online condolences may be sent to the family through

    Arrangements for the Gibbs family have been entrusted to Hathaway-Percy 

Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain.
