Graybeal Ruth B. Graybeal, 90, formerly of 405 Sunset Drive in Johnson City, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006. Born in Roan Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Pearl Garland Buchanan. She was the widow of Byron F. Graybeal. She was a member of Roan Mountain Holiness Church and attended Heritage Baptist Church. Mrs. Graybeal was a member of the Roan Mountain Garden Club. She attended ETSU. Her career in life was that of a beloved wife, mother and homemaker and she did all that with excellence. She was a delicious cook who welcomed everyone to come and eat at her table. She must have fed and entertained thousands throughout the years and welcomed each one with a smiling face. Her home was filled with the warmth of her love, especially for those who lived there for extended periods of time. She was never judgmental and never spoke an unkind word about anyone. She taught her children to love God first, to enjoy life and put others first. If we could pattern our life after anyone it would be our mother and her dearest friend, Jonnie. Those two are now in heaven in the arms of Jesus, a long awaited reunion; and they are now deciding which dessert to prepare for dinner. We have the comfort of knowing where our mother, the ultimate lady, is spending eternity. The family would like to thank her special caregivers, the CNA's and all the staff of NHC. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Ray Buchanan, and a special friend, Jonnie Graybeal. She is survived by her daughters, Judy Shelton and husband, Bob, of Johnson City, and Janice Stevens and husband, Jerry, of Lynchburg, Va.; son, John Graybeal, and wife, Carol Ann, of Johnson City; sister: June Lecka and husband, Todd, of Fayetteville, N.C.; grandchildren, the Rev. Tim Shelton and wife, Susan, of Memphis; Todd Shelton of New York, N.Y.; Jamie Stevens of Roanoke, Va.; Jessica Stevens of St. Thomas - Virgin Islands; and Jameson Graybeal of Johnson City; four great-grandchildren, Jack Shelton, Gray Shelton, Sam Shelton and Drew Shelton; and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services with the Rev. Tim Shelton officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside services will be held on Sunday at 10 a.m. in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. to go in procession. Active pallbearers will be Steve Lecka, Michael Lecka, Doug Cole, Jameson Graybeal, Todd Lecka and Tommy Buchanan. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawson Kerley and Todd Shelton. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.tetrickfuneralhome.com or faxed to 610-7177.
