Grindstaff Sidney R. Grindstaff, 88, 130 Sidney Grindstaff Lane, Elizabethton, died Monday, September 18, 2006 at NHC Healthcare. A native of Carter County and lifelong resident of the Simerly Creek Community, he was a son of the late John and Hattie Moore Grindstaff. Mr. Grindstaff was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran and retired from North American Rayon Corporation, Elizabethton. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Grindstaff was preceded in death by his first wife, Okie Davis Grindstaff, in 1975; his second wife, Mae Bullock Grindstaff, in 1992; a stepson, Carl Bullock; four sisters, Clearsie Bowers, Sylvia Carver, Velma Whittemore and Bertie Tolley; and a brother, Delmer Silas Grindstaff. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Grindstaff Cooper and her husband Rick of Johnson City; a grandson, Ricky Cooper of Johnson City; a sister, Beulah Captola Hyder of Hampton; a brother, John Grindstaff of Elizabethton; and a stepson, Conley Bullock of Elizabethton. The funeral service for Mr. Grindstaff will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, in the Woodall-Anderson and Dugger Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold McNabb officiating and providing the musical selections. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September, 21, in the Davis-Gouge Cemetery, Highway 107, Unicoi. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for this committal service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
