Grindstaff Herbert Hoover Grindstaff, 78, 1262 Dry Creek Road, Elizabethton, died Monday Oct. 16, 2006, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Isaac Wilburn and Alice Richardson Grindstaff. He was a retired employee of Tri-City Plating. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Luther and Walt Grindstaff; and four sisters, Nettie Sturm, Alma Grindstaff, Edith Fair and Vernie Richardson. He was of the Baptist Faith. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 2166. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Edna Mae Chesser Grindstaff; one son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Kay Grindstaff, Telford; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Joe Cole and Wanda and John Randolph, all of Elizabethton; one brother, William Parker Grindstaff, Powder Branch; six grandchildren, Laura Buchanan, Justin Randolph, Jamie Cole, Joe Cole, Crystal Wilson and Candace Holland; and six great- grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Arnold Hensley officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Lyons Chapel Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Thursday, will be, Steve Buchanan, David Humphrey, Joe L. Cole, Joe W. Cole, John Randolph and Justin Randolph. Honorary pallbearers will be, Sam Chesser, Bobby Jarrett, Bo Ellison, J.B. Wilson, Troy Brown and Doug Graybeal. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at his residence. Military honors will be provided by the Tennessee National Guard. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Thursday.
