CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Claude James Garland, 22 Jun 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Claude J. Garland Claude James Garland, 76, Bluefield Avenue, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mr. Garland was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Ira O. and Latha L. Grindstaff Garland. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Edward Garland, Willard Garland and Hershel Garland. Mr. Garland was a member of Charity Hill Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Vearlean Lewis, Elizabethton; a son, Ronnie D. Garland, Elizabethton; a step-daughter, Juanita Turner, Elizabethton; a sister, Sylvia Turner, Ivey, Ga.; a brother Earl Garland, Johnson City; and a special person, Earlene Garland, Elizabethton. A special thanks to the doctors and nurses in the I.C.U. at Sycamore Shoals Hospital for their thoughtfulness and kindness to Mr. Garland and his family, and also to Pastor Jerry Emmert.
