Gibbs 12/27/99 William Howard Gibbs, 77, of Johnson City, (formerly of Roan Mountain), died Friday, December 24, 1999, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Gibbs was a native of Roan Mountain and the son of the late James and Rosa Brown Gibbs. Mr. Gibbs was a retired employee of Snap-on Tools. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae Ollis Gibbs, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Sanford Neil and Sue Ann Gibbs, Piney Flats; a daughter and son-in-law, Zelma and Fredric Stephen Proffitt, Knoxville; a sister, Nell Shell, Roan Mountain; two granddaughters, Jennifer Kelly Proffitt, Los Angeles, Calif., and Andrea Truan and her husband, Jon, Knoxville; two stepgrandsons; and a sister-in-law, Edith Gibbs, Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, (423) 542-2232, is in charge of arrangements. www.Funeral-Plans.com/Tetrick GIBBS -- Funeral services for William Howard Gibbs, 77, of Johnson City, (formerly of Roan Mountain), who died Friday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with Mr. Randy English, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Charlotte Smith. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gibbs Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Wayne Gibbs, Ray Gibbs, Steve Proffitt, Jon Truan, Chris Ollis Sr., Chris Ollis Jr., Wayne Helms and Brian Helms. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
