Gibson 08/09/99 Mrs. Ruby Hathaway Gibson, 88, Ivy Hall Nursing Home, formerly of 711 North East Street, Elizabethton, died Friday, August 6, 1999, at the nursing home after an extended illness. Mrs. Gibson was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Eugene A. and Ella Berry Morrell. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Lon Edgar Hathaway, December 12, 1954, and John R. Gibson, August 28, 1992. Mrs. Gibson was a retired Food Service Worker and a member of the Valley Forge United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Sycamore Chapter #163, Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ruth Hathaway Bowers, Elizabethton; a son-in-law, Fred C. Bowers, Elizabethton; a foster daughter, Joyce Hathaway Mitchell and her husband, Joe Mitchell, Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Annie M. Hensley, Elizabethton; her sisters-in-law, Christine Morrell, Ora Morrell, Helen N. Hathaway and Marie Senter; granddaughters, Debbie Bowers Gouge and her husband, Larry Gouge, Elizabethton, J. Betsy Bowers, Pensacola, Fla., and Roberta Bowers Muhn and her husband, Noel Muhn, Erwin; a foster grandson, Sean Brown; and six great-grandchildren, Justin Muhn, Brittney Muhn, Katie Brown, Daniel Muhn, Jamis Gouge and Emily Brown. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. GIBSON -- A Celebration of the Life of Mrs. Ruby Hathaway Gibson, 88, Ivy Hall Nursing Home, formerly of 711 North East Street, Elizabethton, who died Friday, will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lon Tobin officiating. David Arney, organist, will provide the music. A special "Thank You" to Victor and Judy Deloach and the Staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and also to her Care Givers, Edna Arnett and Emogene Harmon. The family will receive friends following the service. Friends may also call at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ruth and Fred Bowers, 110 East K. Street, Elizabethton. Memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Gibson to the Discretionary Fund of Valley Forge United Methodist Church, 3974 Highway 19E, Elizabethton, Tenn., the Elizabethton Senior Citizens or the Carter County Rescue Squad. It was Mrs. Gibson's request to be cremated. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
