Mr. Gouge was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Ruby A. and Martha Addie Birchfield Gouge. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Vada Ledbetter, and three brothers, Verne, Sam and Garfield Gouge. Mr. Gouge was retired from the Carter County Road Department, the Carter County Sheriff's Department and was a former School Bus Driver. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Vance and Janice Tice, Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Roy Gouge, Buzzards Bay, Mass.; a grandson, Clifton Tice, Tampa, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Ethel McCurry, Unicoi. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. GOUGE -- Funeral services for Emmert Gouge, 80, 102 Reece Hill Road, Hampton, who died Monday, February 7, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gary Whitehead officiating. The Sunset Quartet will provide the music. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 10, in the Simerly Collins Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Arnold Hughes, Bill and Susan Gorman, Toney and Ann Pierce, Ray Gillam, Dr. Todd A. Whitaker, Phyllis Deal and the Staff and Nurses at Roan Highlands Nursing Center. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Thursday. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
