Gouge Mrs. Virginia Clark Gouge, 79, 940 Parkway Blvd., Elizabethton, Tenn., died Monday, July 16, 2001, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a lengthy illness. A Carter County, Tennessee, native, she was the daughter of the late Robert N. and Marguerite Young Clark. She was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Clark. She was a retired elementary school teacher with the Carter County School System, having taught at Happy Valley, Range, and Southside Elementary Schools. She was a member of First Christian Church, Elizabethton, where she was a church circle member. She was a former pianist at the Southside Christian Church. She was a member of the Carter County Retired Teachers and a former member of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Vernon H. Gouge, of the home, one son, Lee Gouge, Johnson City, Tenn., two sisters, Wilma Owens and Dorothy Pearson, both of Elizabethton, Tenn., and several nieces and nephews. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. GOUGE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Clark Gouge, 79, 940 Parkway Blvd., Elizabethton, Tenn., who died Monday, will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Messers Don Marshal, Paul Knapp and Richard Thomason, ministers, officiating. Music will be by Mr. Kenneth Miller, soloist. The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2001, in the Masonic Garden of Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Dr. James Pearson, Dr. Kenneth Clark, Bill Young, Carmon Dugger, Troy Thomason, Tom Hughes, Millard Fitzsimmons, John "Bud" Gouge, Joe Gouge and Frank Greene. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Southside Christian Church of Elizabethton, members of the Southside Christian Church, teachers of the Carter County School System, friends and neighbors. A special thank-you for the wonderful care by the staff, nurses and aides at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton and the Sycamore Shoals Hospital, and Dr. Jerry L Gastineau. Mrs. Virginia Clark Gouge showed her love, loyalty, devotion and compassion to her church and students. She had beauty, intelligence and talent. Her former students still came to her and thanked her for helping them in school. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service. Friends may call at the residence at any time. Everyone will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service at 10:50 a.m. on Wednesday.
