Sherman Gouge, age 75, Route 7, Elizabethton, died in the Veterans
Administration Hospital, Mountain Home, Tuesday morning.  Mr. Gouge was a
native of Carter County.  He was a veteran of World War I, a member of
Dashiell Masonic Lodge No. 238, and a member of the Valley Forge Freewill
Baptist Church.  Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Tamie Stevens Gouge; two
daughters, Mrs. Lester B. Young, Route 8, Johnson City, and Mrs. Robert L.
Fine Jr., Walker Street, Elizabethton; two sons, Rudolph Gouge, Route 7,
Elizabethton; and MacDonald Gouge, Route 4, Johnson City; five grandchildren;
three nieces and three nephews also survive.  Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home is
in charge of arrangements.  Funeral services for Sherman Gouge will be held
Thursday at 2:30 pm from the Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church.
Officiating will be Rev. Cecil Higgins and Rev. Garland Bentley.  Music will
be in charge of the church choir.  Active pallbearers:  Eugene and Carl
Little, Joe Berry, Edward Roe, Duke Arney, Stanley Sims, Vaughn Jewett and
William D. Finney.  Flower bearers will be friends and neighbors.  The body
will remain in the Funeral Home Chapel where the family will receive friends
Wednesday from 7 until 9 pm.  Friends may call at the Chapel anytime, and at
other times at the home on Rt. 7, Elizabethton.  The body will be removed to
the church Thursday at 12 noon to await the service hour.  Graveside services
will be conducted by Dashiell Masonic Lodge No. 238.  Burial will be in Happy
Valley Memorial Park.  Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.

(Sherman was the son of John Anderson Gouge 1856-1907 and Celia A. Gilliland
1863-1943.)
