Gourley 04/26/99 Robert Lee Gourley, 83, 157 Rockhouse Road, Johnson City, died Friday, April 23, 1999, at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Gourley was a native and lifelong resident of Carter County and a son of the late James C. and Ida Forbes Gourley. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. He was retired from the Johnson City Medical Center as chief of security. Mr. Gourley was a 1935 graduate of Happy Valley High School. He was a World War II and Korean Army veteran and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Mr. Gourley was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Caroline Cox Gourley, several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Appalachian-Hartman Funeral Home (928-6111) is in charge of arrangements. GOURLEY -- Funeral services for Robert Lee Gourley, 83, 157 Rockhouse Road, Johnson City, who died Friday, April 23, 1999, will be held Monday, April 26, 1999, at 8 p.m. from the East Chapel of the Appalachian-Hartman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chad Rittenhouse officiating. Graveside committal services will be held Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at 10 a.m. in the Mausoleum at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Entombment will follow. Those planning to attend the committal services are to meet at the cemetery by 9:50 a.m. Tuesday. Active pallbearers, who are requested to be at the funeral home by 7:45 p.m. Monday are D.H. Byrd, Freddie Davis, Victor Duncan, Mack Lewis, Bill Tester, and Tony Benedetto. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Grossrode, Ralph McKinney, Ed McKinney, Ralph Edens, Claude Tester and Jeff Street. The body remains in the chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday.
