Gourley 4/19/00 Mrs. Mamie D. Gourley, 77, 270 Max Jett Road, Johnson City, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Hillview Health Center, Elizabethton, following an extended illness. Mrs. Gourley was a lifelong resident of Carter County and a daughter of the late Walter and Maude Lyons Shepherd. She was also preceded in death by her husband, David C. Gourley, April 10, 2000, and by a brother and two sisters. Mrs. Gourley was a retired cook at Milligan College. She was a member of the Oak Grove Church of God. Survivors include a son, Rickey L. Gourley, Gastonia, N.C.; a daughter, Sharon Leach, Johnson City; a brother, Dick Shepherd, Greenville, S.C.; two sisters, Pauline Hill and Dorothy Tipton, both of Johnson City; and two grandchildren, Kim and Todd Leach, both of Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Gourley, 77, 270 Max Jett Road, Johnson City, who died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, with Rev. Jerry Stout and Rev. Willie Justice officiating. Music will be by the Milligan Free Will Baptist Church Choir. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Calvin Tipton, Eddie Tipton, Jim Hill, Steve Hill, Bruce Hill and Larry Leach. Honorary pallbearers will be Clay Leach and Ralph Willocks. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Friends may call at the residence of her daughter, Sharon Leach, 169 Leach Road, Johnson City, any time. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
