Grindstaff Mrs. Mamie Slagle Grindstaff, 72, 2149 Siam Road, Elizabethton, died Thursday, December 14, 2000, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Grindstaff was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Sabin and Nettie Honeycutt Slagle. She was also preceded in death by a brother, John L. Slagle, and four sisters, Marie Williams, Mae Potter, Mary Smith and Margaret Slagle. Mrs. Grindstaff was a member of Siam Baptist Church, however, her minister was the Rev. Mark Street of Keenburg Free Will Baptist Church. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Rev. Robert '"'Ray'"' Grindstaff, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert E. and Beth Grindstaff, Elizabethton; a sister, Myrtle Shell, Elizabethton; and three granddaughters, Riley Baker, Kelli Grindstaff and Jordan Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Mark Street officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 17, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Sabin Shell, Phillip Ramsey, Rostand Smith, Bobby Ward, Bill Mosley, Tim Walker, Jason Thompson and Danny Birchfield. Honorary pallbearers will be Physicians of John Lawson Surgical Group, First Medical Group, Inpatient Medical Service, Gene Honeycutt, Alphas Anderson, Bill Sellers, Richard Collins, David Collins, Jean Bishop, David Crockett, Cecil Eggers, Aaron Grindstaff, Billy Jack Grindstaff, Jerry Carr, Cecil Carr, David Dean Grindstaff, Michael Alan Altizer, Jack Altizer, Clifford Miller, Physical Therapy Department of Johnson City Medical Center, Staff of Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, Staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Carter County Rescue Squad and Staff of Pinecrest Family Practice. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
