CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Walter Ray Grindstaff, 26 Jul 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Walter R. Grindstaff Walter Ray Grindstaff, 87, Lincoln Dr., Elizabethton, died Monday, July 26, 2004 at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he is a son of the late John and Maggie White Grindstaff. He was a member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church. Mr. Grindstaff retired from North American Rayon Corporation, Elizabethton after 42 years of service. In addition to his parents, Mr. Grindstaff was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Ray Grindstaff and several brothers and sisters.Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Gertie Lipps Grindstaff, of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Phyllis and Pete Kezer, Lorain, Ohio; Karen and Jerry Moore and Rosella Pritchard, all of Elizabethton; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Harold and Virginia Grindstaff and Claude and Connie Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Katherine Hall, Elizabethton; one sister-in-law, Carrie Campbell, Elizabethton, and one brother-in-law, Ernest Lipps, Erwin. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Walter Ray Grindstaff will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2004 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Wilson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Becky Rideout, granddaughter. The graveside service and burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004 in the Ensor Cemetery. Everyone will meet at the funeral home chapel at 9:45 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service and at the residence, 108 Lincoln Dr., Elizabethton, at any time. Active pallbearers are Jerry Campbell, Argus Campbell, J. M. Campbell, Gary Arnold, Pete Kezer, Jerry Moore, Larry Stout, Jr., Shaun Pridemore, Colton Grindstaff, Steve Hardin, Ben Johnson, and Stevie Hardin. Honorary pallbearers are the security staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, fellow employees of North American Rayon Corporation, Dr. David Fenner, Carolyn Hamm and the staff of Adventa Hospice, special caregiver Connie Grindstaff, Douglas Hatley and Rev.
