CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Laura Holder Grindstaff, 29 Dec 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Laura Holder Grindstaff, 95, formerly of Broad Street, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home, following an extended illness. Mrs. Grindstaff was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Jessie and Lilly Bishop Heatherly. Mrs. Grindstaff was a member of South Side Free Will Baptist Church, but attended Roan Street Church of God. She owned and operated Holder's Store at Sadie before World War II. She also owned and operated Holder's Store on Broad Street and Watauga Valley, as well as several restaurants, including Rainbow Restaurant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Crusie Holder, and her second husband, C.H. Grindstaff, two sisters, Nina Ray and Pearl Cole, and six brothers, Luther, Charles, Omer, Godfrey, Asa and Henry Heatherly. Survivors include two sister-in-laws, Beatrice Heatherly and Eva Arnold Heatherly, both of Elizabethton; a step-daughter, Bertha Holder, Elizabethton; two special step-grandsons, Ralph Patterson, Elizabethton, and Ronnie Patterson, Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; several other step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and a special friend, Shirley Campbell, Elizabethton. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, December 30, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Bill Greer officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service hour. Friends may also call at the residence, 1358 Broad Street, Elizabethton, anytime. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, December 31, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Friday. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors.
