CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Etta Oliver Grindstaff, 27 Feb 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Etta Oliver Grindstaff, 93, Jim Deal Road, Elizabethton, died Sunday, February 27, 2005, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Grindstaff was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Will and Lizzie Lewis Oliver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Grindstaff; two brothers, Murray Oliver and George Oliver; a sister, Pearl Oliver Grindstaff; and a son-in-law, Frank Phillips. Mrs. Grindstaff was a member of Unaka Baptist Church. She was a retired cook at Unaka High School. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William Mac and Phyllis Grindstaff and Dawson and Sandy Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton; two daughters, Geneva Phillips, Church Hill, and Eudina Bordeaux, Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Cindy Phillips, Church Hill, Cheryl Hill, Kingsport, Lori Beam, Elizabethton, Robert Bordeaux, Kingsport, Beau Phillips, Gray, and Michael Grindstaff, Kingsport; two step-grandchildren, Wayne Calhoun, Gulf Port, Miss., and Carlena Calhoun, of New Mexico; five great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a special niece, Georgia Ann Arnold, Elizabethton; a special great-niece, Adina Arnold, Elizabethton; and a special friend, Kim Bordeaux. Several other nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Walker Roberson and Rev. Bill Ponder officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dale Williams and Melissa Elsea. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, in the Ensor Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Michael Grindstaff, Robbie Bordeaux, Beau Phillips, Gary Arnold, Leslie Grindstaff and Ricky Oliver. Honorary pallbearers will be Evelyn Brooks, the Staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton, the Third Floor Staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Dr. James Shipley, Dr. Jerry Gastineau and Rev. Earl Berry. Everyone planning to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
