Groce 2/29/00 Mrs. Lillie Aleen Lewis Groce, 86, of Village East Apartments, 200 N. East Street, Elizabethton, died Sunday, February 27, 2000, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Groce was a lifetime resident of Carter County and the daughter of the late Landon T. Lewis and Lena Lewis Brooks Elliott. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Roberta C. Groce, October 14, 1940; her husband, Robert A. Groce, July 21, 1973; two sons-in-law, Captain Roy H. Wilson and Rev. Charles E. Manning; two sisters, Nina Lewis and Virgie Lewis Groce; and a brother, Omer Lewis. Mrs. Groce was a member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Survivors include a son, Robert A. Groce Jr., Johnson City; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol and Don Hardin, Mildred and Bill Isaacs and Loretta J. Wilson, all of Elizabethton; two sisters, Mable Lewis Teague, Roan Mountain, and Mary Lewis Richesin, Elizabethton; two brothers, Earl Lewis and Freeman "Hoover" Lewis, both of Elizabethton; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Eva Shelton, Erwin. Several nieces and nephews also survive. East Street, Elizabethton, who died Sunday, February 27, 2000, will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Rev. Bobby Stout and Rev. Ray Colbaugh officiating. Music will be under the direction of the New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church Quartet and Jon Shell, bagpiper. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 2, at Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons: Joseph Carpenter, Johnathon Wilson, Steve Wilson, Josh Hardin, Andy Hardin, Randy Hardin, Timmy Hardin, Todd Manning and Matt Manning. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Amerisource Corporation of Johnson City, friends at Village East Apartments, Willard Collins, Internal Medical Group of Johnson City, special neighbors of the Hunter Community, James H. and Cecile C. Quillen Rehabilitation Hospital, Rev. Floyd Walker Roberson and Rev. Howard Messer. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Friends may call at the residence of a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Don Hardin, 1620 Highway 91, Elizabethton, any time. The family, friends, ministers and pallbearers will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
