Guess Ruth Evelyn Carden Guess, 71, 1607 Scenic Drive, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, January 9, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Guess was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Marvin Carden and Grace Barnett Carden Van Dyke. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Rodney Guess, and by a brother and a sister. Mrs. Guess was a retired employee of Texas Instruments. Survivors include her husband, Earl Guess, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Rhonda Guess, Elizabethton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shelia and Joseph Sopko, Macedonia, Ohio, and Judy and Terry Davis, Kingsport; five grandchildren and spouses, Jonathan and Emily, Josh and April, Christina, Dusty and Justin; and three great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Cydney and Carter. Visit our Web site at www.Funeral- Plans.com/Tetrick GUESS -- Funeral services for Ruth Evelyn Carden Guess, 71, 1607 Scenic Drive, Elizabethton, who died Wednesday, January 9, 2002, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, January 11, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Whitehead officiating. Music will be under the direction of Ethel Davidson, soloist. Interment will follow the service at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Carden, special friends, Cheryl Bowers, Mary Gurley, The Little Family and Barbara and Bill Fraley. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home. Friends may also call at the residence, 1607 Scenic Drive, Elizabethton, at any time.
