CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Dorothy M. Shell Guinn, 22 Jan 2005 ----¤¤¤---- Dorothy M. Shell Guinn, 91, Bud Miller Road, Roan Mountain, died Saturday, January 22, 2005, at the Charles A. Cannon Jr. Memorial Hospital, Linville, N.C., following an extended illness. Mrs. Guinn was a native of Carter County (Shell Creek Community) and a daughter of the late Daniel and Loraine Clark Shell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Guinn, August 29, 1976, two sons, Clifford and Harold Guinn, four sisters, eight brothers, and a grandson, Mike Montgomery. Mrs. Guinn was the last charter member of Morgan Branch Freewill Baptist Church, Roan Mountain. She was a homemaker and a foster care parent to over 30 children. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Norma and Rev. John Montgomery, Johnson City, Betty and Jack Hoilman and Pam and Rev. Danny Cooke, all of Roan Mountain; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmie and Lola Guinn and Richard and Barbara Guinn, all of Roan Mountain; 22 grandchildren; 34 great- grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, at Morgan Branch Freewill Baptist Church, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Keith Gwyn and Rev. Jim Storie officiating. The graveside service and interment will follow in the Richardson Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be selected from Mrs. Guinn's grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Morgan Branch Freewill Baptist Church, Honorary Ministers, Rev. Dale Miller and Rev. Joe Winters. The family would like to offer a special "Thank You" to the staff and doctors of Charles A. Cannon Jr. Memorial Hospital, the staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center and staff and nurses of Hospice Health Call. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 24, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, or at the residence of a daughter, Pam Cooke, 112 Bud Miller Road, Roan Mountain, at anytime.
