Mrs. Hale was a native of Elizabethton and the daughter of the late John and Emma Ruth Fair Merritt. Frances was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church where she had taught the Fidelis Sunday School Class for 17 years. Frances loved being a homemaker and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother to her family. She was a loyal wife to her husband, Beamer Hale, who passed away on November 14, 1989. Frances was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Gilbert Ornduff of 1206 Huron Drive, Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Shirley Hale of 705 5th Street, Elizabethton; a daughter-in-law, Ida Hale of 1023 Fairview Avenue, Elizabethton; three granddaughters, Pamela Ornduff of Nashville, Mona Ornduff Evans of 1200 Michigan Avenue, Elizabethton, and Kelly Dale and her husband, Albert Dale of Spring Hill, Tenn.; two grandsons, Mark Hale of Charity Hill Road, Elizabethton, and Todd Hale of East K Street, Elizabethton; four great-grandchildren, William Michael Hale, Chase Hale, Sierra Hale and Courtney Evans, all of Elizabethton; a great-great-grandchild, Korbin Hale of Elizabethton; a sister, Mrs. Daisy Cohen of Redwood City, Calif.; and her best friend, Evelyn Gentry of Elizabethton. The funeral service for Mrs. Hale will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, December 12, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Hendrich and Rev. Bob Polk officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jamie Schaff, soloist. The committal service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 13, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Chris Hughes officiating. Active pallbearers, who are requested to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, will be Mark Hale, Todd Hale, Bill Hale, Randy Merritt, Tom Milhorn, Bill Schaff, Frank Gentry and David Miller. Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Pless, David Buck Jr., Mack Merritt, Will Andrews, Greg Wagner, Joe Jennings, Todd Isaacs, Thomas Isaacs, Rick McKinney, Ray Williams, Alvin Woodby, Gene Smith, Claude Emmertt, Ken Deloach, David Ornduff and Jerry Slemp. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 12, and also at the home of Frances' daughter, Ann Ornduff, 1206 Huron Drive, Elizabethton. The family of Mrs. Hale extends special thanks and appreciation to the staff of Hermitage Health Care Center for the wonderful care they gave to Frances.
