Hampton Wilma Hodge Hampton, 72, 304 Short Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton, went to be with the Lord on the date of her birth, June 20, 2006, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Hampton was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late John and Alice Hodge. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and special friend to many. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Paul Hampton; four children, Susie Hampton and Don Wilson, Elizabethton, Bobby Hampton and his wife Donna, Kingsport, Ricky Hampton and his wife Cyndi, Elizabethton, and William P. Hampton, Piney Flats; four grandchildren, Chuck Hampton, Melissa Hampton, Brent Hampton and Taylor Hampton; two great-grandchildren, Lee Ann Wiseman and Austin Hampton; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Lois Ward, Geraldean and Andy Grindstaff, Glenna and Conley Bullock, Carol and Blue Treadway and Johnnie and Raymond Holtsclaw, all of Elizabethton; and one chosen sister, Norma Williams, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services for Mrs. Hampton will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 23, in the Lyons Chapel Cemetery with Mr. Jason Burchfield officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Friday, will be Blue Treadway, Andy Grindstaff, Kevin Grindstaff, Conley Bullock, Mathew Holtsclaw, Bobby Hampton, Raymond Holtsclaw and Norman Lyons. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence at anytime. The family of Mrs. Hampton wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital for the kindness, love and care that they extended to Wilma.
