Hayes Dr. Howard A. Hayes, 98, 2009 Sherwood Drive, Johnson City, departed from this earthly life on Friday, October 14, 2005. Born on Walnut Mountain in Carter County, Dr. Hayes studied at Johnson Bible College, Milligan College, and ETSU in order to receive his BA; Butler University School of Religion to receive his Bachelor of Divinity, and Vanderbilt University for his Master of Theology and Doctor of Ministry degrees. Dr. Hayes ministered to congregations in Tennessee, Arizona, Indiana, Oklahoma and Minnesota before returning to Tennessee in 1967. He co-founded Midwest Christian College, and also taught at Minnesota Bible College, Milligan College and Bluefield (West VA) College of Evangelism. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Florence Hayes, Johnson City; two sons and three daughters; seven grandchildren, and many, many relatives throughout East Tennessee. A memorial service for Dr. Hayes will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, October 21, at First Christian Church in Johnson City. In lieu of flowers, the Hayes family requests that memorial contributions be made either to Appalachian Christian Village, or to Emmanuel School of Religion.
