Mary N. Haynes 

Mary Nell Haynes, 98, of Elizabethton, died Friday, November 4, 2005, in 

Fayetteville, N.C. 

Mrs. Haynes was a lifelong resident of Carter County, where she taught school 

for 39 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton and had 

been a member of the church longer than any other individual. She was most 

active in the W.M.U. and was a leader of the Y.W.A. and G.A.s. 

Mrs. Haynes was preceded in death by her parents, Hunter and Minnie Allen, and 

by seven brothers and a sister. 

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bob Haynes and Sylvia Browning 

Haynes, Fayetteville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Cynthia Haynes Young and her 

husband Rodney, Charlotte, N.C., David Haynes and his wife Amy, Greensboro, 

N.C., and John Haynes and his wife Josephine, Gastonia, N.C.; and four great-

grandchildren, Kelly and Brittany Young, Charlotte, N.C., and Scott and Michael 

Haynes, Gastonia, N.C. 

Visitation for Mrs. Haynes will be conducted from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 

6, at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment will be 

conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, November 7, at Highland Cemetery with Rev. Brent 

Seals officiating. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Monday 

to go in procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests 

that expressions of condolences be made to First Baptist Church of 

Elizabethton, 212 East F Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643. Online condolences may
