Mrs. Heaton, formerly of 210 Conway Street, Roan Mountain, was the daughter of the late George and Mary Hyder Carver and a native of Carter County. She was a lifetime member of Burbank Freewill Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who loved taking care of her family. In addition to her parents,Mrs. Heaton was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Heaton, March 14, 1994, a son, Ray Heaton, and by two sisters and two brothers. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita and Ford Miller, Barbara and Bobby McCurry and Pat and John Winters, all of Roan Mountain; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Elizabeth Heaton, Greensboro, N.C.; 12 grandchildren, Roger Miller, Gary Heaton, Jack Heaton, Rick Heaton, Jerry Heaton, Sam Heaton, Steve Heaton, Keith Stout,Donna Caraway, Angela Adkins, Sherry Heaton and Karen Kirkman; 17 greatgrandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Blanch Holtsclaw, Roan Mountain; special nieces and nephews, Gene and Margaret Ferguson, Margie and Odell Robinson,Leota and Robert Laws, Earl Ferguson, Rev. Roy Ferguson and Josephine Holdren; several other nieces and nephews; her special friends, Ted and Ruth Barnett, Sue and Mike Fair, Anna Lou Heaton, Jack and Willie Troutman, Gene and Lela Heaton, R.E. and Hazel Jarrett, Draper Heaton, SadieMoody, Brenda Gouge, Peggy Stanley, Mary Lou Boone, Rev. Delaney and Betty Berry, Peggy Garland, Sandra and Tim Hughes and Bonnie Odom; and her loving roommate, Ruth Hughes. The funeral service for Mrs. Heaton will be conducted t 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Johnny Vance and Rev. Roy Ferguson officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27, at Happy Valley Memorial Park.Active pallbearers will be grandchildren and Randy Caraway, Matthew Caraway and Jeremy Clipse. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Tull Oaks Jr., Tom Burleson, Kenneth Jarrett, Wayne Miller, Wayne Holtsclaw and friends and neighbors. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service in the chapel, or at the homes of her daughters at anytime. The family would like to especially thank the staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center for the love, care and compassion shown to Mrs. Heaton and her family during the last year.
