Henson Bruce Allen Henson, 84, 158 Ann Cove Road, Roan Mountain, died Monday, November 13, 2006, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center following a lengthy illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late David "Dove" and Lillie Barnett Henson. Mr. Henson was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy and survived The Battle of Midway. He was self-employed. He was a member of Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166, a past member of Roan Mountain Citizens Club, and a member of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Henson was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ida Viola Stockton Henson, two brothers, Pierce Henson and Ford Henson, and a sister, Valley Barlow. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Sandra Henson and Arland and Kathy Henson, all of Roan Mountain, and Keith and Rhonda Henson of Marion, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Eddie Roark of Roan Mountain; a brother and sister-in-law, Herman and June Henson of Roan Mountain; two sisters, Edith Gouge and Mae Garland, both of Roan Mountain; a sister-in-law, Lois Henson of Morganton, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Eric Roark, Kerri Roark, Leanne and husband Jonathan Townsend, Sherry and husband John Starnes, Crystal and husband Tim Freeman, Abbey Henson, Drew Henson, Shea Crisp and Paul Crisp; seven great-grandchildren, Michael Starnes, Morgan Starnes, Chandler Starnes, Garrett Freeman, Gracie Freeman, Katie and Cameron Crisp. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The Celebration of Life service for Mr. Henson will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, November, 16, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain, with Pastor Martin Christian officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, or friends may also call at the residence of his daughter anytime. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, November 17, at Stockton Family Cemetery with Military Honors to be accorded by Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Those who wish to attend need to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Friday. Active pallbearers will be John Starnes, Jonathan Townsend, Tim Freeman, Eric Roark, Michael Starnes, Wesley Henson and Lester Henson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Barnett, Dr. Clair Paris and Staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center.
