Robert D. Hicks 

Robert Dayton Hicks, 74, 1130 Poga Road, Butler, died Saturday, September 10, 

2005, at the residence of his niece, Frankie Flannery, 216 Long Hollow Road, 

Elizabethton, following an extended illness. 

Mr. Hicks was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Goble and Cora 

Hicks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, 

Adrian Hicks, a nephew, Marvin Clawson, a sister, Nellie Hicks Clawson, and a 

sister-in-law, Rosa Hicks. 

Mr. Hicks was a member of Piney Grove Church of Christ, Poga, and was a farmer. 

Survivors include a brother, Willie Hicks, Poga; a special niece, Frankie 

Flannery, Elizabethton; two special great-nieces, Judy Vines and Amanda 

Linville, both of Elizabethton; two special nephews, Chris Flannery, 

Elizabethton, and Billy Anderson, Limestone; a special great-great-nephew, 

Isaiah Vines, Elizabethton; a special cousin, Jackie Wiseman, Elizabethton; two 

special friends, Vernon Vines and Brownie Preslor, both of Elizabethton; and a 

sister-in-law, Ellen Hicks, Butler. Other nieces, nephews and cousins also 

survive. 

The funeral service for Mr. Hicks will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, September 

12, at Piney Grove Church of Christ with Mr. Dean Estep, minister, officiating. 

Music will be under the direction of the church choir. The family will receive 

friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service at the church, or at the 

residence of his niece, Frankie Flannery, 216 Long Hollow Road, Elizabethton, 

at anytime. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, 

September 13, at Stines Cemetery, Poga. Active pallbearers will be Bill 

Anderson, Jeremy Anderson, Jimmy Clawson, June Clawson, Ernest Hicks, Carl 

Cable, Wayne Lowe and Tim Garland. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Nunley, 

Ronnie Kent, Charlie Phillips, Carroll Clawson, L.D Clawson, Cecil Huff and the 

staff of Adventa Hospice. Everyone will meet at the church at 10:30 a.m.. 

Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Condolences to the Hicks family
